SUSTAINABLE FORESTRY –
MANAGING YOUR FOREST
This winter’s Science Pub theme is Backyard Conservation – What Can I Do?
This presentation will provide management techniques for landowners of all sizes, from the backyard forest to an entire landscape. See how sustainable forest management can achieve a variety of landowner goals, from forest health, wildlife habitat, and timber production to recreation, aesthetics, and more.
Gabe Horton, a Holderness native, works as a forester across the state. A UNH graduate with fifteen years’ experience across the country, he has worked in the private sector, for the US Forest Service, and the state of New Hampshire. His career has involved managing private land, primarily in New Hampshire, land within the White Mountain National Forest, lands of the US Army Garrison West Point, Alaska, Oregon, California, Massachusetts, Maine, Vermont, and more. Gabe has developed a philosophy around management that is holistic in its approach, considering landowner goals and all aspects of the natural resource. Gabe strives to continuously learn about all aspects of the forest and provide the highest quality stewardship of the land for all landowners.
